Academic Evaluation Ssystems

Teacher's Subjective Evaluation & Assessment of Homework

Homework Evaluation

Subject evaluation reflects the child’s

  • attitude, response, participation and ability to concentrate in class.
  • understanding and language expression (written/oral).
  • presentation of work (neatness, condition of copy, systematic presentation etc).

Homework reflects the child’s

  • regularity & punctual submission of work
  • child’s original effort
  • accuracy of work done.
  • presentation, neatness, legibility
  • corrections regularly & punctually done

Monthy Tests

  • There are 6 tests per subject in a year: three tests in Term 1, two in Term 2 and one in Term 3.
  • Tests are staggered throughout the month, with a maximum of 2 tests per week for Classes 1-7, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In Class 8 and above, there are maximum 3 tests per week.

As children progress through the school, more subjects are added to the monthly test schedule; for example, Art and Computer Studies assessment is based on class work alone until Class 9 (Form III), at which point all subjects’ assessment is based on class work, homework and monthly tests.

  • Pupils absent from a Monthly Test

The following procedure shall be adopted to award marks if a child is absent from a Monthly Test:

    • For the first test missed in a particular subject in Term 1, the average mark attained in subsequent tests and class work in the subject in Term 1, is used as the proxy mark.
    • For the 1st test missed in the second or third terms, the average mark attained in Terms 1 and 2 is used as the proxy mark.
    • For the 2nd test missed in any term, the same procedure applies, except that the lowest mark instead of the average is used as the proxy mark.
    • For the 3rd and subsequent tests missed, zero mark is awarded.
  • Parent’s signature and filing procedure

Test papers sent home must be duly signed and returned to school for us to ascertain that parents have actually seen the papers. These papers are then returned to the parents who are requested to file them for reference.

Examinations

  • Examinations, for Class 4 and above, are held in December and May, (end of Term 1 and end of Term 3). For pupils below Class 4, there are no examinations.
  • As children progress through the school, more subjects fall within the examination framework. In Class 4, for example, ONLY English and Maths are examined, but in Classes 5, 6 and 7, English Maths and Science are examinable subjects. By Class 8, all subjects are examined (with the exception of Computer Studies and Art)
  • In Class 9 (Form III), when pupils have opted for their ‘0’level subjects, each one of those subjects is examinable.

Remedial Classes

For students who are weak in a subject and in need of extra help, the school may provide remedial classes. These classes may be held outside school hours and/or on Saturdays. Students selected to attend remedial classes are expected to stay behind after school or attend on Saturdays. Full support is required from parents.

Library

Books may be borrowed from the school library and must be returned not later than the date given. Fines are imposed for delays.

In case of the loss of a book, the same book may be replaced along with a fine of Rs.20.

Books returned in bad condition may result in:

  • withdrawal of the lending facility to the student
  • the payment of 1½ times the price of the book, or replacement of the book with a fine of Rs 20.

Books & Stationery

  • The booklist is issued at the start of the year.
  • Pupils are required to use only Bloomfield Hall copies.
  • For the convenience of parents, the school recommends bookshops which stock the books prescribed by the school. However, parents are free to purchase the prescribed material from shops of their own choice.
  • Classes 1-4 children are not allowed to purchase stationery or books from the school bookshop directly. The money must be sent to the office in the morning and the office shall purchase the books from the bookshop on child’s behalf. This is to safeguard the children from handling cash.
