School Rules ---> Miscellenous

Special Duties

As office holders in various areas of school life, students are expected to perform extra duties. Thus monitors, prefects, Headboys/girls, team captains etc are obliged to perform extra duties within and/or outside of school hours.

In addition, every student should be ready to perform special duties allocated to him/her by the school: e.g. being ushers on school functions, performing backstage support in a school play etc

The House System

Bloomfield Hall schools operate the House system and students are allocated to Houses. The House system in most schools starts after Class 4.

House rules are given to students by Housemasters/mistresses. Students are expected to attend all events including games practice organized by their Houses.

Sports & PE

Participation in sports (including swimming) and PE is compulsory for all able-bodied students.

No pupil is exempted from PE without a valid/genuine written reason by the parents. In emergency situations the teacher/head may decide that the child is not fit to participate.

Snacks

All pupils up to Class 4 are required to bring their own snacks and flasks containing water/juice etc. Canteen facilities are not available to pupils up to Class 4.

School Magazine

Bloomfield Bias is the annual school magazine. Each student is issued a copy of the magazine for which (s)he is charged. The charge is part of the lump-sum amount collected with the 1st instalment.

Selection for Competitive Events

Competitions in debate, sports etc are held at various levels: Inter-Class, Inter-House, between different Bloomfield Hall schools and between Bloomfield Hall and other schools. The selection of team members for these events is based upon merit and is decided by the relevant members of staff.

Inter-City Competitions

Bloomfield Hall schools operate in a number of cities in Pakistan. Various competitions between schools in different cities are held each year. Selected students are expected to travel to other cities in order to participate in these events.

Inter-City School Transfers

Students following the GCE O level stream in any Bloomfield Hall school are automatically accepted in the same class in case of inter-city transfers. Automatic acceptance by the ‘destination’ school is subject to the following:

  • that the parent who is a government servant is a full time employee of an organization, has been transferred to the ‘destination’ city. (Automatic admission is not available to parents who are self employed or to employees who have simply changed the city of residence)
  • that the student had studied for at least one academic term in the existing school that at least one term’s notice is received by the ‘destination’ school from the existing school
  • that parents are willing to pay fees pertaining to the ‘destination’ school that in the destination city where more than one school (branches) exists, admission is given in the branch where vacancy is available

Inter-City Transfer of Staff

A member of staff transferring to another city will be taken on by a branch of BH in that city if a vacancy exists and at the discretion of the Head.

Intra-City Student Transfer

Over the last few years, Bloomfield has established schools in different cities, but in some large cities several branches or sister schools exist side by side. The following rules have been designed to facilitate communication between sister schools in a city. Heads are required to follow the rules for the healthier functioning of the system:

A student of any one branch /BH school wishing to transfer to another branch/BH sister school in the same city, is accepted by the ‘destination’ branch if a written approval/recommendation is given by the Head of the ‘original’ branch/sister school. The Head of the destination branch/sister school accepts only if a vacancy is available.

Lost Property

Items (clothing/lunch boxes/books etc) left behind by students are kept by the school for pupils or parents to claim back within a week. The school cannot store lost property indefinitely; items not claimed within a week are normally sent to local charities.

First Aid

In case of an ailment such as stomachache, fever or headache, the pupil is sent to the school administrator who takes the following steps:

  • administers standard treatment e.g. appropriate syrup for fever
  • phones the parents so that the child might be taken home

It is therefore essential that parents inform the school of any medicines that the pupil is NOT to be given. In case of injury, the child may be taken to the nearest hospital and parents contacted immediately.

Transport to & from School

Parents are responsible for making transport arrangements for their own children. However, the school assists parents in this regard. The school recommends van-operators who are willing to provide the transport facility exclusively to Bloomfield Hall pupils and are considered to provide a reasonable service at a reasonable price. Parents are, however, advised to contact the van drivers/operators themselves if they wish to use these vans.

Beyond this, the school does not take any responsibility in this regard.

Transport operators do not normally offer the service during exams or on days when functions are held. Parents are advised to make special transport arrangements during these periods

Health

  • Parents must keep the school informed regarding matters of serious concern about their children’s health.
  • The school may disallow the attendance of a pupil if (s)he is considered to suffer from a disease which is contagious
  • Pupils’ hair must be checked by parents at regular intervals for possible infestation and appropriate action must be taken. (leaflets available in school office.

Change of Address

Any change of address or telephone number must be communicated to the school office immediately.

Preparation of Testimonials etc

  • The school requires at least 1 week’s notice to prepare documents (i.e. testimonials, references, school leaving certificates etc) required by the student/parents. Requests for these must be received in writing by the school.
  • In all documents issued by the school, details regarding the name, parents’ name, parents’ occupation, date and place of birth etc are taken from the student’s file and are deemed to be accurate and correct.

Special Holidays
